Understanding Normalisation norms for selection of candidates:

  1. Raw scores obtained by the candidates
    1. Paper – 1(common) = 66/100 – [33 out of 50 Questions answered correct]
    2. Paper-2 (Education subject )= 108/200 – 54 out of 100 questions answered correct]

  1. Normalization procedure is based on percentile scores of candidates,
    1. Raw scores of a particular subject group from highest to lowest marks are aligned to obtain mean marks distribution.
      1. the test data helps us to determine a student’s rank
    2. Raw Marks for all the shifts/sessions will be merged in the percentile scale of measurement.
    3. The percentile rank of a student is based on the relative score in comparison from highest to lowest.
      1. In case of 99 percentile scores, total raw score of a candidate is equal to or less than the candidate with maximum score.
        1. lower scores corresponds to lower percentile level.
    4. Thus the selection is made based on the conversion of raw scores into percentiles.

  1. Statistically significant levels of selection for assistant professor @ 95 percentile and JRF nomination @ 99 percentile from an entire population of all subjects is decided in advance,
    1. The average mean of the will be the eligibility cut-off for that category of students.
  1. For instance, both paper 1 & 2, 140+80 = 174/300
    1. % score = 174/300 * 100 = 58 % obtained score is above the mean of true scores 58 and 67.33.
      1. The above cutoff is an instance that it crossed both levels as mentioned in the table below.
      2. So, it qualified for both levels AP and JRF of this NTA test.

5. General category marks are set as standard for other categories to determine eligibility cut-offs.

Thus, Norm referenced learning provides support for active participation of learner in the learning process in an interaction setting with intrinsic motivation as the basis.

Percentile is different from %

Where 100 percentile score means number of candidates who scored less than or equal to 100 % marks.

Normally distributed scores corresponds to percentile ranks to indicate his/her students performance in the test.

Decision of selection(Pre-test) @95 percentile and 99 percentile is made.

Whereas cutoff (post test) is determined by mean scores of those candidates selected at the above two levels.
